Getting Down to Business: The Woody on Main

How did your business begin?

The Woody on Main was a lifelong dream of Woody Windham. He talked about owning a dance club on Main Street, in historic downtown Columbia, for as long as we could remember. We named it for him as a tribute to his 55-plus-year career in Columbia as a radio personality. We started in the Vista, but just relocated this year to the corner of Main and Blanding.

What do you like best about your line of work?

We love that we are able to become a part of so many different lives and so many good memories. People come to The Woody to celebrate birthdays, weddings, bachelorette parties, girls’ night out, and just about any excuse to have some fun with every kind of person or family. It’s fun to see everyone come together and have a good time.

What is something people would be surprised to learn about your business?

Over the years we traveled around with our dad dancing and performing with him, and we learned a lot about entertaining people. It was about making sure that everyone had fun with everyone, and we left there thinking man, that was a good party! As we got older, we started hosting parties and working in the service industry, learning more and more along the way. Owning our own place would not have been possible without all that life experience. We feel blessed to be able to do what we love and actually be pretty good at it.

How does your company give back to the Columbia community?

We have raised money for various charities throughout our years in this business, including the JDRF (diabetes research) and Harvest Hope. Our father has been known for his years of dedication to raising money for the Cancer Society and the American Heart Association. We hope to continue to help the community and local fundraisers in the future.
